The Cary Arms

The Cary Arms

Food & Drink

The Cary Arms is an interesting one. With all the charm and trimmings of an English pub on the seaside, it also stands apart from the crowd thanks to a little luxury and one of the county’s most picturesque locations. Don’t be put off taking the dog along though, the pub may be stylish but it has bags of character and plenty of space inside and out.

The Cary Arms is found at the bottom of a steep, winding cliff path and sits quietly with the waves washing its feet – but the views and fine food make the amble down to it well worth it, and there’s always a bowl of water available to welcome the dogs. If you visit during the summer you’ll be able to sit back outside on the patio and enjoy your meal with sea views.

Ahhhhh the meals...the Cary Arms serves up stylish, fresh food made with the ingredients of the season, and there are few good pub guides that don’t include a strong pointer in the direction of this upmarket Torquay watering hole.

On the other hand, if you visit during the winter there’s often the chance to huddle close to the open fire as local sausages are cooked on it to your liking. The specials board changes daily, but classics from the menu include Devon crab salad, West Country sirloin steak and the catch of the day from nearby Brixham.
