Haytor is the ultimate Dartmoor climbing spot, not least because it’s so renowned. There are dozens of climbs to tackle, and they vary in difficulty to make for an interesting day’s climbing. The crag is divided into two, High Man and Low Man, and no matter which of them you climb it’ll be fantastic. If you head to the back of the tor you’ll find a choice of more than 30 impressive routes reaching up to 80 feet in height, so you’ll be spoilt for choice at this Dartmoor beauty spot.

Each of the routes is protected, but keep your eyes open for the visitors that choose the easy way and walk up! It’s not possible to see Low Man from the road, but you’ll find around 25 routes to choose from, and they range from Severe to the Higher Extremes. Haytor is one of the busier spots for a climb in Devon, and it attracts thousands of visitors every week – especially during the tourist season.

Haytor is west facing and is a granite rock, and it’s home to some of Dartmoor’s longest and most popular routes. Haytor is perfect for the sub-E1 climber, while Low Man has more to offer those on E2 and above. Interrogation and aviation are a must! Haytor has many easy grades too, so it’s always been a popular choice with younger climbers and school parties.
