The Minack Theatre

The Minack Theatre

Things To Do

The Minack Theatre is a spectacular Penzance attraction, whether you choose to watch a performance under the stars or visit during the day. The theatre was carved into the cliffs at Porthcurno and it makes an awe-inspiring sight overlooking the glistening seas below.

The Minack Theatre was created in the style of an open air amphitheatre, and it’s not only a unique Penzance attraction but also makes for a truly special experience. Actors clamour to perform beneath the skies in this dramatic setting, and the Atlantic just behind it lends itself as the backdrop to every production. The theatre was the life’s work of one woman, the late Rowena Cade. She devoted much of her life to making her vision of an open-air theatre in the Cornish cliffs come true, and it remains one of the world’s best known amphitheatres today.

The theatre’s summer season runs every May to September, and it plays host to everything from Shakespeare to adaptations of modern films. Recent years have seen Titanic, Wuthering Heights, James and the Giant Peach and hundreds more productions thrill audiences of all ages in a setting they’ll never forget.

There’s free parking for all visitors at the Minack, and it’s not only the theatre itself that draws the curious but the sub-tropical gardens have also become an attraction. Anyone with a love of gardening or an eye for the exotic will fall in love with the Cliffside garden, and it certainly makes a colourful sight from afar.
