Rosemary Cottage is nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Bere Alston in West Devon. This quintessential one-bedroom cottage has been lovingly refurbished in 2022 and is ideal for a romantic retreat or a solo traveller looking for creative inspiration. As you enter the property, make you way into the charming kitchen which is well equipped with an electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and an under-counter fridge. The utility area next door also has a washing machine and tumble dryer. Head into the cosy living room which has an open fireplace, a Smart TV with Freeview and comfortable seating to relax on after a busy day exploring the area. This includes a double sofa which can accommodate two additional guests if requested. A fireguard and the first basket of logs are provided. The beautiful double bedroom is on the first floor (mind your head on the ceiling as you head up the stairs), and it has a zip and link super king-size bed (which can be setup with twin beds if requested). Next door is the bathroom which has a shower over the bath, a heated towel rail, toilet and sink.
Bere Alston is a delightful village which has everything you would need during your stay including a village store, post office, bakery, chemist, butchers, and a pub. Situated in the beautiful Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and West Devon mining UNESCO world heritage site, there are plenty of countryside walks, along quiet lanes and numerous footpaths. Just upstream from Bere Alston on the river Tamar is Morwellham Quay, a tiny harbour where half the world’s copper travelled through in the 1860s, and which is now a popular visitor attraction telling the story of copper mining through history.
For a delightful day of walking head up to the wilds of Dartmoor National Park, or discover Drakes Trail, where you can walk or cycle to your hearts content. Conveniently located near the River Tamar, the cottage offers a world of outdoor adventure; perhaps you could spend an afternoon hiking and cycling the moors, or if you prefer a more tranquil approach to your days out, take a trip to Cotehele, a superb National Trust House featuring some enchanting gardens and orchard for you to explore.
Further afield the World Heritage town of Tavistock is fifteen minutes’ drive and Yelverton is the same distance. Beyond lie the South Hams and the city of Plymouth with its shopping centres, cinemas, theatres, concert venues and restaurants. Trains run between Bere Alston and Plymouth, on the picturesque Tamar Valley line, following the river for much of the route. Cornwall and its fishing villages, a wealth of historic houses, trails, walks, and rural pubs are just across the river Tamar. Whatever your style of adventure or relaxation, choose Rosemary Cottage as your holiday home in the Devonshire countryside.
