Well those of you who do are in luck, Goodrington boating lake\u0026rsquo;s home to swan pedalos, so families can take some time out on the water.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003ePaignton Zoo\u0026rsquo;s one of the South West\u0026rsquo;s leading family attractions, and if you buy a joint ticket you\u0026rsquo;ll be able to enter the Living Coasts attraction beside Torquay harbour too. We should probably point out that not only is Living Coasts home to a free-roaming collection of friendly penguins, but it even has a zebra crossing for them to waddle across between the humans!\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eIf you fancy seeing some of the countryside that we all know and love South Devon for you can board the Dartmouth Steam Railway from Paignton and chug your way on to Kingswear (where you can board a ferry to Dartmouth), or hop off at Greenway Halt station and wander through woodland to the summer retreat Agatha Christie loved.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eImagine if you could wind the clock back to the days when Agatha Christie called Torbay home\u0026hellip;well, hop aboard Barnaby the vintage Agatha Christie bus on Paignton\u0026rsquo;s seafront and you\u0026rsquo;ll be ferried to Greenway House , the queen of crime\u0026rsquo;s former summer home. The sandiest jewel in the English Riviera\u0026rsquo;s crown, spending time together on the local beaches is one of our favourite things to do in Paignton. First of all there\u0026rsquo;s Paignton Sands, the longest sandy beach in Torbay (and a Seaside Award holder too don\u0026rsquo;t you know), and then there\u0026rsquo;s the collection of family attractions in the local area that keep sun seekers flocking to the town every year.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eWe should point out that not only is the beach huge at low tide, but a study recently showed that it has the best sand for making sandcastles in the whole of the UK. So, if your usual attempts at sandy creations end up in crumbling messes while the kids look bemused there\u0026rsquo;ll be no excuses this time\u0026hellip;\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe beach backs onto Paignton Green, a wide grassy space that\u0026rsquo;s now home to the kind of play park the kids won\u0026rsquo;t want to leave \u0026ndash; the Geoplay Park, and the summer sees friendly donkeys set up camp on there ready to ferry toddlers around their enclosure while mum stands back with the camera at the ready.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eJust along from Paignton Sands, Goodrington Sands is another of South Devon\u0026rsquo;s most popular beaches, and with a curving arc of sand, plenty of amenities and the excitement of the odd steam train passing by it has the feeling of days gone by to it. If you stand on the sand and look up you\u0026rsquo;ll see curving flumes jutting from Splashdown Quaywest Waterpark, and it\u0026rsquo;s not only the UK\u0026rsquo;s largest waterpark but its setting right beside the beach makes it one of the most picturesque too.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003ch2\u003eOur favourite restaurants in Paignton\u003c/h2\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eWhen the sun starts to set after a blissful day on the beach there\u0026rsquo;s only one thing for it, to pick a restaurant and start thinking about what you\u0026rsquo;re going to tuck into. The restaurants in Paignton include some of our favourites in the bay, and we\u0026rsquo;d have to point you in the direction of Squires Fish and Chips if you fancy being traditional during your time by the sea, or The Harbour Light if you want dinner with a view. Set in the 1950s, the house remains home to an extensive archaeology collection, hundreds of books (unsurprisingly!) and botanical china. A visit to Greenway is about so much more than just the items you\u0026rsquo;ll see though, you\u0026rsquo;ll love the warm atmosphere of a property filled with family memories, and the grounds are simply stunning.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eRoam the romantic woodland garden that\u0026rsquo;s beautiful enough to inspire any writer, and note the rare plants that reflect Agatha\u0026rsquo;s interest in flora and fauna. In fact, she visited Torre Abbey in Torquay to find out about the poisonous uses for plants when writing her murder mysteries. There are also occasional car parking spaces to be found right outside the cinema beside the sea wall, but these can be closed off at certain times of the year.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eYou\u0026rsquo;ll find a wide range of snacks on offer at the ticket counter, including hot dogs and pic n mix, and The Boathouse restaurant right next door has a children\u0026rsquo;s play area. The park was finished in 2012 and was built to reflect the geological history of the English Riviera.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIt can be tricky when you have children of different age groups trying to enjoy the same rides, and one of the best things about this park is that it\u0026rsquo;s been divided into separate areas for toddlers, juniors and teens. The park is so close to the sea that it may be a push choosing between fun on the sands and the many rides just behind the beach, but the park even includes a water channel and sand play areas so they can have the best of both worlds.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe toddler area has a trampoline, a seesaw, a climbing hut and spinner bowls \u0026ndash; and as it represents the Devonian Period parents can even swing their children above a wetpour sea. The junior area\u0026rsquo;s climbing nets are shaped like mountains, a testament to the collision of two major continents back in the Caroniferous Period. Have you been to Kents Cavern yet? The workshops demonstrate just why south Devon\u0026rsquo;s produce makes the finest ingredients for any meal, and they use a hands-on approach to get the groups cooking.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eMeats used in the workshops are reared right on Occombe Farm itself, so when we say all ingredients are fresh...in fact, the herbsand fruit are harvested right in the farm\u0026rsquo;s garden too.
