Property Description
Kingston Manor is a truly impressive medieval manor house with many charming and fascinating historical features. A much-loved and very comfortable family home, it feels not just magnificent but also friendly and welcoming, an exceptional setting for a get-together with friends and family or a celebration.
Inside, this grand house evokes centuries of history while also providing every modern-day convenience you could wish for. The first thing to amaze you will be the Great Hall with its roaring 17th-century fireplace, oak panelled walls and flagstone floor, all overlooking the stunning gardens. But that’s not all -- the drawing room, the library, the garden room and the formal dining room, the large and homely kitchen and pantry add up to a huge amount of space to accommodate and entertain everybody of all ages with ease. Up the oak staircase, each of the well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms has its own charm combined with modern comforts.
Outside, Kingston Manor is breathtakingly beautiful. Sweeping expanses of lawn (perfect for football, French cricket, croquet) spread towards the downs, and the fantastic views invite you to walk down to the stream and lakes. Closer to the house there’s a medieval carp pond with an old stone bridge and parterre where you might sit and contemplate life, a formal garden and arbour, and closest of all an enormous south-facing grassed courtyard, safely gated for young children and dogs, with paved terraces and more than enough seating for 16 if you want to eat outside. On the far side of the courtyard is a huge vaulted games barn with full-size snooker table and table football. Tucked to one side, with its own terrace, is the star attraction for some -- a 7-seater hot tub.
When you want to explore more of the island and its numerous pleasures, you’ll find yourself in the perfect position at Kingston Manor -- most of the island’s towns, beaches and attractions are less than half an hour away. Ventnor Beach, Steephill Cove and the sprawling sands at Compton Bay are close by, and the famous Blackgang Chine just a five-minute drive. For golfers there’s a choice of eight visitor-friendly greens, and for walkers a huge network of footpaths in unspoilt rolling countryside right on your doorstep. Ventnor, Shanklin, Carisbrooke, Newport, Godshill -- all are within easy reach, and with Cowes, Yarmouth and Freshwater little more than half an hour away, the options for eating out are also many and varied. Whether it’s days out or at home, rain or shine, staying in or eating out, there will be something to please everyone.
