Our guide to holidays in Ivybridge...
Tucked in the countryside and within easy reach of the moor, Ivybridge holidays are perfect for those of you on the lookout for something a little bit different. Just off the beaten track enough to feel like a real escape from the hustle and bustle, Ivybridge is a popular choice with walkers, explorers and cyclists…and it’s gorgeous.
One day you could be wandering the historic streets of Plymouth, and the next, supping local ale in one of Dartmoor National Park’s ever-so-friendly pubs. If you love the kind of holiday where no two days are the same, then you’ll find a diverse selection of days out within a short drive from your Ivybridge home from home.
If you’re feeling energetic, Ivybridge marks the beginning of the Two Moors Way, a long distance walking trail that stretches all the way to Lynmouth. The route crosses Dartmoor and Exmoor, hence its name, and it’s a fantastic way to see the two national parks in sections.
Things to do in Ivybridge
So, you’ve arrived at your property, you’ve marvelled at the views and now you’re hankering to start making memories. A great place to start is by going to see the original Ivy Bridge (which, needless to say is how the town got its name). Once a medieval packhorse bridge, this landmark still stands. Check out the canvas Turner painted of this very bridge before you go and then see if you can follow his footsteps…the bridge stands above the river Erme, which was once the power source for the mills that dotted the town.
Next, why not choose one of the many trails that wind their way onto the beautiful Dartmoor and spend a little time exploring the rugged side of Devon? And, when you’re ready for good food and time browsing chic boutiques, head back into town where you can stock up on fresh, local produce and arts and crafts.
If you pick up the Devon Expressway and follow it for around 25 minutes, you’ll find yourself in the city of Plymouth. Whether you head to the historic Barbican area and discover the famous Mayflower Steps, or you while away an afternoon shopping at Drakes Circus shopping centre, there’s something for everyone.

With a reputation for serving up great food with a stylish twist, this warm, welcoming pub’s perfect for that leisurely lunch or dinner during your Ivybridge holiday. The lovely thing about Ivybridge and the foodie pubs in the area is that they serve up local speciality ales made by local producers, and most of the menus reflect the tastes of the region…delicious.
You’ll find a little café called My Kitchen attached to the Countrymans Choice Farm Shop, and thanks to its setting close to the A38 it’s a popular stop off with travellers.
