If you’re looking for an attraction that’s indoors and won’t take all day then it’s well worth visiting this fascinating aquarium. Housed inside a series of arches that once protected the Solent, the aquarium showcases some of the local marine life, and it’s always surprising just how diverse the sealife is around the island.
The tanks are home to everything from friendly rays, to cuttlefish and creepy crabs, so a visit is a real learning curve for all ages and it’s always exciting for children to peer into each tank and see what lurks inside. There’s also a section dedicated to the life found in tropical reefs, so don’t miss the opportunity to come face to face with bizarre pufferfish, a lionfish, seahorses and (everyone’s favourite thanks to Nemo) clownfish.
The aquarium is open between April and October (opening times may vary), and with family tickets just £8.50 this is a friendly attraction that won’t stretch the holiday budget. Little ones under 4 enter for free, and entry is just £1.90 for children between 4 and 15. Adult tickets are £2.90. Fort Victoria is also home to a country park, so why not make a day of a visit and make sure you pop in and greet the aquarium’s colourful residents while you’re there?
