Our guide to self-catering Exmouth holidays

Exmouth is South Devon’s original seaside town, and has attracted holidaymakers since the eighteenth century. Its sandy beach, striking coastal views and quaint town centre continue to lure those in search of a relaxing, friendly break all year round. Topsham, just outside of Exeter, matches Exmouth’s bubbly charm with its unique, nostalgic architecture surrounding a historic port. Whether you opt for Topsham or Exmouth, each area has plenty to discover.

Things to do in Exmouth & Topsham

On sunny days, walk around a beautiful pebbled beach at Budleigh Salterton. It’s only a short drive from Exmouth and both locals and tourists come here to unwind by the sea. Bathers can splash around in the shallow waters while walkers can bring their dogs to get some fresh air.

If you’re visiting in October, the Exmouth Carnival comes to town. Its plenty of fun for all ages with colourful costumes, live entertainment, music and activities galore. The town crier lets everyone know what is happening – highlights include face painting, craft stalls and competitions. Join the dazzling crowds and have fun with this brightly lit show.

Fans of live music will appreciate the Budleigh Salterton Jazz Festival which takes place every April. Concerts cover a range of musical styles and the biggest names in jazz turn out to make this a must see event. It’s held around Budleigh Public Hall and you’ll need to buy tickets for most shows.

Exmouth & Topsham Attractions

If you’re in Devon, getting up close to farm animals is a must. At World of Country Life, there are animal experiences that will brighten your whole day. Make friends with the petting farm residents, walk a goat or feed the lambs by bottle. Kids and adults alike will love this memorable opportunity. You can also see what country life is really like for the people who live here – peek at vintage steam engines, walk along a Victorian street and check out the farm museum. Everyone will enjoy this day out.

You can’t go to the seaside without visiting the beach and Exmouth Beach is the perfect place to spend the day in the sunshine. Sandy shores, rockpools and crashing waves will help you to relax as you watch the fishermen hard at work and the local birds flying overhead. Bring your towel and bucket and spade and make this a day to remember.

Crealy Great Adventure Park is the official Visitor Attraction of the Year and a great all-weather day out. Thrilling rides and cute animals make this a favourite attraction of ours. We love the Animal Barn where you can get close to the adorable animals. A sweet little chick might be on hand to greet you. Feed the goats, have a pony ride or have an exciting adventure in Buddy Bear Kingdom. Both adults and children will be amazed.
