Greenwood Grange

Greenwood Grange

Dorchester, Dorset

Tucked in one of the prettiest corners of Dorset’s countryside, Greenwood Grange is home to a collection of stone-built cottages and the kind of facilities that’ll have you wanting to stay forever. Just five minutes from the picturesque cottage Thomas Hardy called home, the site’s within easy reach of fossil hunting days on the Jurassic Coast and those Dorset days out.

Imagine waking up to the sounds of the countryside and enjoying a leisurely morning in the indoor pool right onsite. The tennis courts make the perfect place to challenge the rest of the family to a tournament or two, and there’s even an activity field complete with a play yurt to keep the kids happy. Don’t worry if you get a rainy day, as the games room’s been thoughtfully equipped with everything you need to entertain the group.

With an indoor swimming pool right onsite, you’ll be free to enjoy a dip at your leisure…and we think that’s what escapes are all about. Whether you wind down after a long walk with some time in the water, or you work off those holiday treats with a few lengths, the pool makes the perfect place to forget the world for a while.

Just imagine the kids’ faces when they realise they’ll have the pool ready and waiting for their whole stay…and there’s no need to worry about how to entertain them if you get a wet day during your holiday. The pool's open 7 days a week, between 7am - 10pm.

Indoor games

For those days that are all about staying close to your home from home, the indoor games means there are plenty of ways to relax and unwind – or let the kids let off some steam! The games room has everything you need for some time out, including a pool table, a play area and a televison.

When you return to the site after a busy day exploring, the games room’s just the place to while away an hour or two before retreating back to your cottage. After all, what’s a family break without a pool tournament to show off your skills?

Outdoor games

We know that most days at Greenwood Grange are about enjoying the setting in the fresh air, and there are plenty of ways to do it without even leaving the resort. For one thing, there are tennis and badminton courts for those of you keen to practice your serves, as well as croquet for those sunny days.

For the younger members of the family, you’ll find a grassy play area complete with swings and a play yurt so the kids can embrace rural life in style. See, they've thought of everything.

The vegetable patch

We love the fact that Greenwood Grange has its very own veg patch. About as close to The Good Life as you’re going to get during your stay in Dorset, this communal patch means you can pick and choose the flavours of the season and enjoy a home-cooked meal with the real tastes of Dorset…yum.

The Jurassic Coast

What’s a family break without at least one day spent getting sandy feet? Greenwood Grange sits within easy reach the world-famous Jurassic Coastline, and that means plenty of opportunity to try your luck at fossil hunting.

The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site’s home to more than 185 million years of history, and it rolls on for 95 miles of great times. So, whichever of the region’s beaches you pick to spend some time on, you’ll find yourself on one of the UK’s most dramatic stretches of coastline.

Thomas Hardy Country

It’s easy to see why good old Mr Hardy chose to write most of his literary works from the peace and quiet of his cottage just minutes from Greenwood Grange, and if you’ve always wondered about the man behind the stories then the National Trust cottage welcomes visitors.

The cottage is much as it was when Hardy called it home, and you can even sit at his desk and peer out on the rose garden below…just as the writer himself would have done.
