Woolacombe Beach

Woolacombe Beach

Things To Do

Once voted Best British Beach by the Mail on Sunday, Woolacombe rolls on for three sandy miles and is dotted with fluffy sand dunes. Dogs are welcome on much of the beach, and happily, the area they're banned from is very small in comparison to its size. Woolacombe Beach holds a Blue Flag, signalling clean water that’s safe for bathing and paddling in (depending on how brave you’re feeling!).

Lifeguards man the beach during high season, and its impressive waves attract surfers from all over the country. Enjoy a walk with your dog along the sands whilst watching the surfers tackling the waves out at sea, or sit back and enjoy the sun while your pet has a great time exploring. Woolacombe is a lovely beach for the whole family, and its many awards also include a Premier Seaside award.

Nearby Mortehoe is a very dog friendly area too, so if you fancy continuing your walk after leaving the beach you’ll be able to choose from all kinds of routes and pathways as you carry on. Pop in and ask if dogs are welcome in any pubs you pass too, as more often than not they’ll be happy to welcome your pet with you.

Between Good Friday and 1 November it’s important to keep your dog on the lead between the stream and Mill Rock, and they are not allowed between the rocks at the beach’s north end and the stream.
