October means one thing and one thing only for those in Devon- Apple Day at Cockington. Apple Day is one of the best-loved Torquay events, and it's a great chance to celebrate the arrival of autumn and the traditions that have been practiced in the medieval village of Cockington for hundreds of years. Cockington makes just the place to wind the clock back to the days when apple pressing was manual work and the village was a hub of activity.
Mark autumn and the harvest season with a day of delicious food, family entertainment and local crafts. There are always apple pressing demonstrations held throughout the day, and few can resist taking home a bottle of the freshest apple juice – some even use it to ferment their own cider! There's a family feel to Apple Day, and the activities include plenty for children to do and lots of opportunity to create and get involved.
There's parking in Cockington village and at the court, although Apple Day attracts crowds every year so the car parks can get busy. You'll find Cockington just two miles from Torquay seafront, and there's a pretty walk to the village along the water meadows.
