The Royal Citadel looks down across Plymouth Sound and was built on the site of an earlier fort constructed Sir Francis Drake\u0026rsquo;s time. The Royal Citadel was England\u0026rsquo;s most important defence for more than a century and has been repeatedly strengthened over the years since its completion in 1666.
