One of the area’s most popular events is also the strangest...hundreds brave the cold for the annual Christmas Day Swim at Exmouth Beach, and even more turn out to watch the spectacle. Ok so when you open your eyes on Christmas morning the first thought that pops into your mind may not be that you fancy donning fancy dress and plunging into the sea, but it seems to be one of those traditions that keeps on growing.
The crowds gather on the beach and jump in for a quick dip while the crowds watch. The swim takes place near the clock tower on the main Exmouth Beach, and whether its dry, wet, icy or sunny those who take part will not be deterred from their annual plunge! It can be difficult to park close to the seafront on Christmas Day, so it’s best to walk if you fancy going to watch.
There’s always a friendly and cheerful atmosphere at the Christmas Day Swim, and if you fancy getting some fresh air before the Christmas meal propels you to the sofa for the day then we’d recommend popping down to cheer the swimmers on.
