Now the foodie folks in Dartmouth know a good restaurant when they see one and as this restaurant was named the ‘Restaurant of the Year in the South West’ by the readers of the Good Food Guide we’d say it’s well worth a visit. If you’re a fan of celebrity chef Mitch Tonks this is one you won’t want to miss as it’s one of his four restaurants.
The Seahorse Restaurant sits right beside the River Dart, and since some of the finest fresh fish in the world is landed in Dartmouth it’s no surprise that it specialises in seafood. Many dishes are prepared on an open charcoal fire and there’s a welcoming atmosphere throughout the restaurant. Families are more than welcome, and The Seahorse often hosts special guest chefs and winemakers for events.
Feel free to contact the staff with any special requirements before you arrive, and the service is so impressive that if you stay late and miss the last ferry back to Kingswear they’ll arrange a comfortable little boat to get you back to the other side of the Dart. The menu changes every day with the catch of the day, and regulars include Dartmouth crab to start, seafood stew and English veal with anchovy.
The Seahorse not only takes its food seriously, but it also knows its wines. Choose from a wide range of wines carefully selected to complement the fish dishes.
