Candlelit Dartmouth’s a gorgeous place to visit at any time of year, but there’s something magical about this one that makes it one of our favourite Christmassy events.
The fun starts at 4pm on Friday when the town comes to life with festive stalls and live entertainment to regale shoppers before the Christmas lights are switched on. Santa arrives in style by boat at 6pm, and the crowds line the edge of the river Dart to welcome him as he glides across the water (now there’s a sight you don’t see every day..).
On Saturday, the market reopens from 10am so there’s plenty of opportunity to pick up some quirky Christmas gifts, local crafts or yummy festive fodder, and when darkness falls the lantern procession illuminates the historic streets with flickering flames. There’s a family feel to the whole weekend, and children are welcome along to the Flavel workshop throughout Saturday afternoon if they’d like to have a go at some arts and crafts.
The town hosts a seasonal market throughout the weekend, which will be selling local produce, hot snacks and mulled wine, and street entertainment to keep visitors entertained throughout the evening. Candlelit Dartmouth 2015 will take place on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th November.
