The stretch between Newquay and St Agnes has views aplenty, some fantastic beaches and even a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Pick up the path from Newquay just above the harbour and look out for the old Huer’s Hut at Towan Head. This unassuming hut was once crucial to the town’s fishing trade, as the Huer would watch for pilchards and alert the fisherman below. Now that’s a fact that’ll impress your fellow hikers if casually mentioned as you pass...

As you walk on from Towan Head you’ll reach a beach you’ll recognise from many a postcard – Fistral. This long, straight beach is the home of British surfing, and the summer sees it crammed with surfers keen to try and ride the infamous waves of the Cribbar. Some of the local surfers have ridden waves with faces of up to 40 foot on a good day, so its place in the sporting history books is well deserved. Follow the path as it climbs the cliffs at the southern end of the beach and you’ll walk over the headland before making your way down to the River Gannel.

The river divides Newquay and Cantock, and in the summer you can take a ferry across to the history parish. Crantock can be traced right back to the year 460 AD, and its dune-backed sandy beach makes a lovely spot to sit and rest during your day on foot.

https://assets.bluechipholidays.co.uk/media/catalogs/public/downloads/preview/custom_carousel/users/amaia/2014/04/View_from_gardens_02.jpg/carousel.jpg
cornwall/newquay/walking-newquay-to-st-agnes
https://assets.bluechipholidays.co.uk/media/catalogs/public/downloads/preview/custom_1x1/users/amaia/2014/04/View_from_gardens_02.jpg/carousel.jpg
