If you arrive via the coastal road you’ll be treated to fleeting glimpses of some of Devon’s most spectacular scenery. Look out for the headlands of Great Hangman and Little Hangman which jut from the village, and as you make your way down to the sheltered harbour you’ll have plenty of opportunity to take in the views.

Just to the west of Exmoor National Park, Combe Martin’s popular for its sandy beach, and with a Seaside Award to its name in recognition of its safe waters and clean sands, it’s the perfect stretch of coastline to enjoy some family time on the sand. If you’re a walker, the great thing about the village is that it has all kinds of little pathways and trails leading away from it, so it’s just a question of choosing a direction and following your feet.

Places to visit in Combe Martin

Let’s start with one of our favourite places to visit in Combe Martin – the fantastic Watermouth Castle. One of the most popular attractions in the West Country, this day out centres around a Victorian castle, and it’s home to a theme park, some delightfully quirky collections and landscaped gardens. This is the kind of day out where you can visit some gnomes, lose yourself in a maze and even find yourself in a dungeon.

Next, it’s Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. Set in 28 acres of sub-tropical gardens, this park’s all about seeing as many animals as possible while you’re in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Don’t be alarmed if you come across the odd life size dinosaur – they’re all part of the fun – and there are free shows, talks and experiences available every day to help you to get the most from your visit.

Combe Martin’s part of Exmoor National Park, a gorgeous sprawling landscape with a different view around every corner. So, at least one day of your Combe Martin holiday should be dedicated to seeing what there is to see in what’s an official Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Whether you fancy climbing one of the highest cliffs in the country or just tucking into a cream tea beside a trickling stream, Exmoor’s one of those spots that’s all about just doing things your way.

Things to do in Combe Martin

If we had to pick a very favourite thing to do in Combe Martin then it would have to be visiting its sandy (and we should add – award-winning!) beach. Set in a beautiful sheltered bay, this little gem of a beach is perfect for families keen to escape the crowds and take in the scenery while the kids enjoy the safe waters. The beach was awarded a Seaside Award in 2016, so we have it on very good authority that its clean, safe and well looked after all year round.

The South West Coast Path just so happens to run right through the village of Combe Martin, and that means you can grab your comfiest hiking boots and take in some of the area’s scenery on foot. The section that leads to the beautiful resort of Woolacombe’s 14 miles, but if you’re feeling energetic it’s well worth it for the views. The area of pathway around Morte Point is a Site of Special Scientific Interest thanks to its coastal heathland and grasses, and the rock formations that surround it make this one of the most striking areas of the North Devon coast.

combe-martin
https://assets.bluechipholidays.co.uk/media/catalogs/public/downloads/preview/custom_carousel/users/emily.judge/2018/11/Combe Martin.JPG/carousel.jpg

Once an ancient royal hunting forest, Exmoor has a foot in both north Devon and Somerset and includes 267 square miles of national park.
