Here’s something different to experience during your stay in Wisbech – Elgood’s Brewery. A local landmark and a key part of the town’s history, the brewery opens for guided tours between April and October, so you can peer behind the scenes and see all the hard work that goes into making just one pint of beer. Tour prices include tasting some of the beers (for the grown ups) and entry to the brewery’s gardens.
A lovely example of a classic British brewery, Elgood’s Brewery prides itself on doing things the traditional way. Areas of the building have been sympathetically restored over the years, so the equipment and sites you’ll see on the tour are, in most cases, those that were used when the brewery first started making its name.
It’s not all about beer though, the brewery opens its doors for some of the region’s most popular events throughout the year too, such as its annual beer festival, jazz in the gardens and there’s even a plant and crafts fair. Anyway, back to the beers, and visitors can start their tours by seeing the Mash Tun that dates all the way back to 1910.
