Half term highlights..

Ah Autumn! A magical time before the winter sets in. When pumpkins line the shelves, and pathways are strewn with red and gold leaves – perfect for little feet to crunch.

We’ve searched for some of the best family-focused events during the October half term, aimed to keep young and old entertained whatever the weather.

 

 

 

 

 

Devon Highlights

Pennywell Farm, Buckfastleigh

23 - 28 October

October half term fun at Pennywell Farm Tourist Attraction in Devon is all treats and no tricks this October Half Term!

Harvest Trail at Greenway, Brixham

20 October

Can your little-ones follow the clues around Greenway garden on its harvest-themed trail with a literary twist? Children can claim their small prize when they've found them all.

Pirate Day and Trail at Coleton Fishacre, Kingswear

23 and 24 October

There's pirate fun to be had at Coleton Fishacre. Come dressed in your pirate best and join the creative pirate school, making pirate treasure crafts and pirate crowns with autumn leaves.

There's a pirate trail on the 24th of October - X marks the spot. Children can claim a small prize once the trail is complete.

Scream Park at Woodlands, Totnes

22 - 30 October

Woodlands has gone from theme park to scream park to celebrate Halloween.
Treat your little pumpkins to a Halloween experience like no other. With dazzling decorations to eerie sites and sounds.

Exeter Phoenix Auditoreum Rustle, Exeter

24 October

PaddleBoat Theatre Company invites you to help set up camp so that they can tell the greatest campfire story ever told: where sleeping bags evolve into monsters, rucksacks become friends and torches highlight the forest’s closest secrets.

Tickets are £8.00 each or £25 for a family ticket.

Drop In Glass Votives and Shrinkies Crafts at Exeter Cathedral, Exeter

Decorate glass votive holders in vibrant colours and shapes, so that you can light your candle at home in the evening. They will also be making magic Shrinkie Plastic Cathedral People that children can colour, cut and shrink to mini size.

Cornwall Highlights

Paradise Park’s Owl Prowl, Hayle

20 - 28 October

The ‘Owl Prowl’ trail is sure to give you goose bumps as you explore the grounds of the Park hunting out the clues about these creatures of the night. And when you complete all the answers your skills will be rewarded with a lovely sweet treat… yum!

Monkey Sanctuary, Looe

27 - 30 October

It’s all going to get spooky with Halloween games this October at the Monkey Sanctuary. Get your face painted, listen to ghost stories in the gardens and look for secret treasures. 

Lanhydrock House – Bodmin

25 October - 2 November

Test your skills and win lots of prizes with Lanhydrock House's Spooky Garden Trail. A great family event with plenty to see and do. 

October half term Spooktacular, Land’s End

22 - 28 October

Beware of ghoulish goings-on and spooky shenanigans this Halloween at the westernmost point of Cornwall. Explore the free Halloween Craft Cavern and draw, cut and glue together the scariest Halloween monster you can imagine.

Cornish Apple Bobbing Championships, Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, Near Newquay

22 October

To celebrate harvest season in October and National Apple Day, Healeys hosts a range of extra activities on the farm. This is a fun day out for all the family and the chance to win fantastic prizes! There will be apple bobbing competitions for both children and adults, starting at 11am in the courtyard.

The winner will 'bob' the most apples in one minute to win a month's worth of Cornish Rattler cyder (or juice) and a Sunday roast for two at the Old Bottlery Restaurant on the farm.

Dorset Highlights

Weymouth Freaky Streets, Weymouth

25 - 31 October

Visitors to the event will be invited to take part in a hunt for “Freaky Friends” around the town starting on 25th October and ending on “Freaky Friday”, 31st October when a host of “Freaky” themed happenings will keep families entertained

Spooky Fun at Lulworth, Lulworth Castle, East Lulworth

23 – 26 October

Join the spooktacular half term fun, with lots of themed activities to enjoy! Meet Merlin the magician, play in the leaf pile, hunt the bats or make a spooky mask! There will be plenty to do for all the family to enjoy!

Lighting up Autumn at Blackgang Chine, Near Ventnor 

October

This October one of the Isle of Wight’s most famous attractions Blackgang Chine, will be illuminated and open in the evenings as well as the day time.
