Upon entering the Beyond Escapes site, ready for my relaxing weekend with my partner (bottle of prosecco in hand), it is immediately obvious that this a lovely new and fresh site. So peaceful, so much so that you can hear the birds singing away in the trees.
I drive round to my lodge passing the beautiful original building that has been renovated to what is now called the Mansion Suites, this building never gets boring to look at. I find my parking space easily.
I step into Courtyard Lodge 26 and am immediately impressed with the modern decor. The master bedroom and two other twin rooms are on the ground floor with the family bathroom and ensuite (the mirrors have amazing lights around them, great for make up application) I want to find out where the curtains are from as they are a very high quality and are beautiful. I peek through the master bedroom French doors and find that the huge hot tub is ready and waiting in the decked, enclosed garden and the weather was perfect for an afternoon soak, followed by a good old read of my book and a glass or three of prosecco!
It is so peaceful in the garden and I thoroughly enjoy the peace and quiet.
When I venture upstairs to the open plan lounge and kitchen area, I am extremely impressed with the quality of the fully integrated kitchen, it even has lights in the kick boards which is a nice touch, the whole property is immaculate, and I'm even more impressed with the complimentary Devon cream tea - yummmy!!
The complimentary coffee is also not your average freeze dried coffee, nope it’s a full flavour filter coffee complete with a coffee press.
Excellent welcome book with everything you need to know during your stay including local places to visit as well as local places of worship and vets (everything covered!).
Walking barefoot on the plush carpet is a real treat and I can imagine that when the under floor heating is on in the colder months would be heaven!
We step out for dinner at the restaurant and are welcomed by more lovely staff who seat us quickly and take our drinks order. There is so much to choose from, cocktails, wine, prosecco, champagne, beer and spirits.
We both choose the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, triple cooked chips, black pudding (yes you heard right), tomato and mushroom. I am in food heaven!!
The peppercorn sauce is creamy and has a real kick to it, the steak is so tasty I don't want it to run out!
We are so full but reason that if the main course is so nice, that dessert can not not be missed! We have tiramisu and chocolate Delice!
The tiramisu is so creamy but not too rich that we can't finish it. It's also not drowned in Marsala and is just the right amount. My partner's chocolate delice is very rich but would satisfy any chocolate lovers' craving!
We sit here very full and happy looking out to the beautiful Devon countryside on sunset, it is lovely.
We go back to the hot tub, and relax with the hot bubbling tub and a glass of fizz, and enjoy the last of the evening.
I always worry about sleeping away from home, (lets face it there’s no better place than your own bed),but I have to say the bed in the lodge is very comfortable and the crisp, clean sheets give me a perfect nights sleep!
We cook the second night and the open plan kitchen makes it a relaxed evening. The lodge is filled with everything you could possibly need to cook any meal you wish. The induction hob is fantastic and also a great safety feature, seeing as the hob turns off as soon as you took the pan off!
I only wish I have more time to try the Spa, however I don’t think it will be long until my next visit where I can fit that in too!!!
Altogether a perfect weekend away at Beyond Escapes.
