As a student at the University of Exeter, I was desperate to explore some of the most popular holiday destinations Devon has to offer while being in the county, and I was lucky enough to get my opportunity while staying at one of our gorgeous new properties, Summer Place in Torquay.
Being only forty minutes away from where I live in Exeter, the property was in the perfect spot for a weekend getaway, although none of us wanted to leave at the end and a week’s stay would have been perfect. Although we had high expectations of the property from the photographs on the Blue Chip website, we were still surprised by just how luxurious it was once we arrived. It truly felt like a show home, however it was also really homely and comfortable so it immediately felt like ours!
Not only was everything spotless, but we were also treated to a welcome pack by the owners who had left us family size bottles of orange juice, milk, fresh fruit, biscuits and, to top it all off, a bottle of prosecco which meant that we didn’t have to immediately rush out for food and drink after we had arrived but instead could settle down, unpack and enjoy the property.
When we were finally able to drag ourselves away, we had an enjoyable ten-minute evening walk to the local Devon and Dumpling where we filled ourselves to the brim with delicious homemade food and a few drinks, served by friendly staff in a cosy environment. It was the perfect location for the first evening as we hadn’t done our food shop yet and fancied a meal out before settling back at the property for evening.
The following day we walked to the local supermarket, which was also very close by, to get brunch and other food supplies. We then walked into Torquay town centre which is perfect for people who enjoy a nice hilly walk to stretch your legs, although it may be challenging for families and small children! Luckily there are plenty of parking options in the town, and the property is within driving distance of plenty of other town centres, beaches and amusements in locations such as Brixham, Paignton and Exeter so if we had stayed longer we would have had plenty to do.
If visiting in summer, top of our list would have been enjoying a barbeque in the garden. We were quite annoyed with the weather as its rather wet and windy character prevented us from making full use of the outdoors at the property, but for any families visiting when the weather is warmer it would be perfect. There is plenty of room for children and dogs to run around, and it would also be lovely for just sitting outside with a meal and glass of wine.
Everything about the property made us fall in love with it. The kitchen was perfect for preparing group meals with a huge island in the middle of the room and the tv on the far wall. The living room was cosy and perfect for both cold winter evenings, with the log burner and blankets (provided on each bed), and for relaxed summer evenings as the wooden screens fold away to create one large open space. Each bed was incredibly comfortable and the huge rainfall walk-in shower added another element of luxury. All in all, the property provided us with the perfect setting for a quick getaway, although we would absolutely love to have visited in the summer too so we could fully appreciate the property’s facilities and sunny Devon.
