A weekend at Stonerush Lakes

The perfect winter retreat...

As we neared Stonerush Lakes in Cornwall on a wintry Friday afternoon, it became obvious we were going to be spending our weekend away in idyllic and peaceful surroundings. Located a few miles outside of the town of Looe, Stonerush Lakes is nestled in a quiet corner of the Cornish countryside where you feel a thousand miles away from day to day life.

As we entered the site and crept down the track towards the impressive old mill building where the reception is located, we gazed at the impressive countryside vistas, and seeing the standard of the lodges, we couldn’t wait to find 5 Hedgerow and get settled in.

After a quick stop in reception, we were soon outside the lodge, itching to get inside and see where we would be spending the next couple of days, and as we stepped inside we were blown away by the standard of our temporary home from home.

The inside of the lodge was spacious and airy but still managed to feel cosy and comfortable. The stylish, modern kitchen had everything you could need during your holiday, and the robe and slippers waiting on the bed were the icing on the cake. We wasted no time in settling in for our first night, the hot tub bubbling away outside on the deck was just too inviting not to have a dip before we cosied up on the big leather sofa for the evening.

The weekend we were lucky enough spend at 5 Hedgerow coincided nicely with the Looe music festival, the town was bustling when we ventured in to meet up with my parents on Saturday evening and there was a fantastic vibe around the place, the streets and pubs were packed with revellers enjoying the music and the party atmosphere and the weather this year didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s spirits!

However, if you want a quiet weekend to explore Looe this might be one to avoid. We spent rest of our time away enjoying the blissful tranquillity of the lodge, taking a stroll around the park and relaxing in the hot tub and we left on Sunday feeling refreshed and recharged.

If you’re planning a weekend at Stonerush I would recommend exploring the town of Looe with it’s narrow streets and quirky pubs. You’re in the heart of the beautiful Cornish countryside, so if you’re keen on walking this is an ideal base, or if you just want to shut yourself away from the world and enjoy some peace and quiet I couldn’t think of a better place.
