That means long fish dinners in restaurants with views across the water, a varied maritime history to discover and plenty of long shoreside walks during a visit.

Appledore’s cobbled streets are lined with brightly coloured cottages that reflect the village’s laidback atmosphere, and as it’s just 3 miles from Bideford it’s still close enough to the area’s family attractions to make days out with the kids easy.

Things to do in Appledore

Appledore is an exceptional area for things to do. One of the big events is the Appledore Book Festival. Taking place from the end of September until the beginning of October, Appledore is the perfect picturesque place to hold this charming literary event. Welcoming successful writers and speakers, the programme includes book readings, live workshops and film nights.

In a seaside town, there’s bound to be something on the water and Appledore is no different. At the beginning of August, the Appledore and Instow Regatta takes place. Look out for the Gaffers and Luggers sailing races, dragon boat style racing and other activities. There’s plenty of fun for all the family with an art show, crabbing, tug of war and lots of stalls on hand to keep everyone entertained.

While we’re positive you won’t want to leave Appledore once you’ve arrived, you might fancy taking a little trip over the sea. If you enjoy exploring, then take an adventure on a ferry to nearby Instow. If you prefer to stay closer to shore, try a little fishing trip. The fishing trips occur in the Torridge Estuary and it’s the ideal way to spend a relaxing day.

Appledore Attractions

Appledore has plenty of attractions and we’re sure you’ll enjoy a visit to the beach.
