2018’s Finest Food and Drink Festivals

There’s never a bad time to think about food, but with spring in swing and summer approaching a whole host of seasonal delicacies are making their way to the table, so we thought we’d highlight some of the best food festivals in the South West. Don’t forget your appetites!

1. Porthleven Food Festival, Cornwall

The 10 th Porthleven Food Festival offers quality and quantity with a host of rated chefs offering demonstrations around the harbour of this gorgeous harbour town. There will be plenty of local produce to sample, with a side-order of music and drink. Date: Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd April.

2. Levels’ Best Craft & Farmers’ Markets, Montacute House, Somerset.

The old stables of this Elizabethan Renaissance masterpiece in Somerset host an award-winning local produce market every month of 2018. Once you’ve sampled the delicacies you can feast your eyes on the beautiful building and its grounds. Date: 28th April with monthly dates to 15th December.

3. Exeter Food and Drink Festival, Devon

The South West’s premier food and drink producers combine to offer outstanding wares at Exeter Castle and Northernhay Gardens. There’s an accompanying Exeter Beats music festival too, so don’t forget your dancing shoes! Date: 5th, 6th and 7th of May (Bank holiday weekend).

4. River Cottage Food Fair, Devon

Enjoy fun on the farm as you join Hugh and the River Cottage team for a weekend of workshops, masterclasses and excellent eats! You can learn new skills like beekeeping and bush-craft or just relax and enjoy your idyllic surroundings. Date: 26th – 27th May.

5. Occombe Festival, Paignton, Devon

Two days of fabulous food and music combine to make the ultimate weekend away. Taking place in the scenic rural surrounds of Occombe Farm, 100% of profits go towards the Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust, so it really is a guilt free indulgence! Date: 15th - 16th June.

6. Rock Oyster Festival, Cornwall

Summer starts with north Cornwall's favourite festival. The festival is a huge celebration of music and art and is suitable for all ages. Live music, performances, children’s entertainment and fantastic food and drink in one of Cornwall’s most scenic settings. Date: 6th and 7th July.

7. Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival, Dorset

Weymouth’s historic harbourside provides the perfect backdrop for a fantastic, free celebration of deliciously fresh seafood. Champagne, nearly 100 stalls, entertainment for all the family and great food (of course!) make an event not to be missed. Date: 14th and 15th July.

8. St Ives September festival, Cornwall

It may not be a food festival, but the stunning surrounding eateries provide the perfect accompaniment to this two-week celebration. Live music, free exhibitions, guided walks and a host of performances around the town are just the thing to work up an appetite. Date: 8th - 22nd September.

9. Frome Cheese Show, Somerset

Love cheese? Then you’ll be in Heaven at the ultimate celebration in Somerset. Alongside 1,500 different types of cheese, the Global Cheese Awards, cheese bar and more! Date: Saturday 8th September.

10. Dartmouth Food Festival, Devon

There are few better ways to welcome autumn than this wonderful mix of food markets, parties, performances and demonstrations in delightful Devon. There will be plenty of local food heroes and renowned experts but the showcase of South West food is the real draw. Date: 19th to 21st October.
