A stunning apartment at Slapton Sands that overlooks the beach and out to sea.

"Set in the peaceful village of Torcross At The Beach offers a relaxing holiday destination while still having plenty in the local area to keep you entertained.\n\nThe apartments are accessed via an unmade road and are situated at the end of a 3 mile shingle beach where you will also find a cosy pub and cafes. The freshwater Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve is also close by and is perfect for spotting wildlife and birdwatching. \n\nNumber 11 is a spacious and stylish apartment that benefits from double doors and a Juliet balcony off the living area offering fantastic views over the beach. Travel cots high chairs and stairgates are available on request. A selection of complimentary hot drinks are provided upon your arrival.\n\nTorcross was made famous as the training ground for US Army forces preparing for the D-Day invasion in World War II. An American Sherman tank which was lost at sea in 1944 and recovered in 1984 and memorials stand beside the visitor parking area as a reminder of the lives that were lost. Dartmouth is a short drive away as is Salcombe and both offer a choice of fine restaurants cafes bars unique shops and attractions."

On approaching the Centre of Torcross Village, pull off the A379 into the village 'square'. 'At The Beach' will be visible opposite the village parking area near the Post Office and Gift Shops. There is an unmade road leading down towards the beach. The main entrance to the complex is here. There is a lane leading up the hill away from the centre of the village. The complex car park is 25m up the lane on the right.

The keys for the property will be left in the on-site key safe. For security reasons, we will send you the combination details for the relevant key safe the week prior to your arrival. Please leave all keys in the key box provided.

The property will be available from 3pm on your day of arrival and check out time on the day of departure is 10am.

The property is equipped with everything you will need, including utilities, bed linen and towels.

Allocated parking is available for one car.

 Finding 'At The Beach'

Torcross is on the A379 between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. If you are using SatNav, use postcode TQ7 2EA or TQ7 2TQ. On approaching the Centre of Torcross Village, pull off the A379 into the village 'square'. 'At The Beach' will be visible opposite the village parking area near the Post Office and Gift Shops. There is an unmade road leading down towards the beach. The main entrance to the complex is here. There is a lane leading up the hill away from the centre of the village. The complex car park is 25m up the lane on the right.

Parking

Please park in the car park. The key pad is a couple of feet in front of the gate on the right hand side. If the gate is across, enter the access code 'E1834E' on the keypad and it will open. The gate closes automatically after a time delay. There is a keypad on the inside of the car park for use whilst exiting. If the electronic system on the gate is not set then it can be slid across. In the event of a power failure there are instructions in the apartment on how to disarm the gate so it can be manually operated. You will find an electronic key fob in the apartment for use during your stay. Please ensure you leave this behind when you leave the apartment

There is one space allocated per apartment. Additional free parking is located in the village square outside the General Stores and Pay parking is available along the main road adjacent to the Ley.

Access to the Apartment

The apartment may be accessed through the main front door of the complex. If you already have a key fob, swipe the tag across the small glass panel below the key pad. The door will click open. If you do not have a key fob, press the 'Key' symbol, followed by 1414 and then press the 'key' symbol again. The door will click open.

To exit through this door, press the 'exit ' button on the right hand side of the doors and it will unlock. Please do not try to force the doors open.

Apartment 11 is located across the communal courtyard accessible from the first floor. The keys for the apartment are located in the key safe outside the front door to the apartment. The key safe code will be sent to you by text 7-10 days before your stay.

There is an alternative access to the apartment. From the car park, turn right and walk up the lane beside the complex cottages, around the rear of the cottages and then down the steps to the communal terrace, where the steps to 11 are located in the left corner. There are gates with a mechanical lock at the side of the cottages. For access enter the code 1414 and turn the knob clockwise to open. If the gate does not open, turn the knob in the opposite direction to reset the lock and re-enter the numbers. The car park and lane are not well lit so it is a good idea to have a torch handy if you arrive at night.

Whilst Torcross is largely crime-free, please make sure that doors and gate are closed behind you or locked as you come and go. When you leave the property at the end of your stay, please return the apartment key to the key safe and leave any other keys in the property.

Inside the apartment

Safety Features

There are linked smoke and heat alarms within the apartment which may operate in certain circumstances within the apartment (over heated food or burnt toast for example). An audible high pitched bleep will be heard. There is also a building alarm situated in the hallway of every apartment and in all communal areas which is operated by heat or smoke depending on location. In the event of an incident anywhere in the complex, this warbling alarm will sound and you should leave the building and assemble with the other occupants of the complex, on the esplanade to the front of the complex. Please familiarise yourself with escape routes from the apartment and building. The apartment and all areas of the building, terraces, balconies and communal areas are strictly 'No Smoking'.

There is an information sheet in each apartment indicating the location of isolation points for the gas, water and electricity supplies.

Heating

The boiler is in the cupboard immediately inside the main door to the apartment. The heating should be set to 'ON' (24 hrs) or 'ONCE' (on first thing in the morning and off last thing at night) or 'TIMED'. If the boiler is programmed to come on, the heating is controlled from the remote thermostat in the hall. Simply turn the dial to the desired temperature.

TV

The TV is wired to a 'FreeSat' Box. To operate the TV, turn the TV on using the Samsung remote. Select 'HMDI2' using the 'Source' button on the remote. Then, using the Grundig remote, turn on the FreeSat box. Use 'Guide' to select the channel you wish to view. If no signal is present, turn the FreeSat box off and back on at the wall socket. This should reset it.

To use the DVD, switch on the DVD and use the 'Source' button on the Samsung remote to locate the channel displaying the Samsung DVD logo. Insert your chosen DVD and press play when the menu is displayed.

Wi-Fi Access

Wireless Internet access is available throughout the 'At The Beach complex'. To connect, seek active networks on your operating system and select as follows:

Network Name - 'At The Beach'
'Security' or 'access' code (WEP) is 'F778DEDF72'

Whilst we are confident that the network of routers and repeaters within the building flood the complex with 'Wi Fi', we cannot guarantee signal at all times due to circumstances outside of our control such as equipment or network failure or atmospheric conditions. You should be aware that whilst the network is secure within the confines of 'At The Beach', once connected, others within the complex may be able to 'see' your device. We cannot be held responsible for any breaches in the security of or unauthorised access to your system whilst you are connected through our wireless network.

Kitchen Equipment

HOB - There is an isolation switch on the wall near the hob. To operate the hob, touch the 'ON/OFF' mark on the glass. (This is a circle with a line in it) Then select the ring with which you wish to cook and use the '+' or '-' keys to adjust the temperature. Always cook with the extractor hood on.

OVEN - There is an isolation switch on the wall near the oven. The flush controls are accessed by first pushing in the knob and allowing it to protrude and then turning it to the desired setting in the normal way.

FRIDGE/FREEZER - Please leave this ON when you leave the property at the end of your stay.

DISHWASHER - The isolation switch is on the grid panel on the kitchen wall. There is an additional start button on the top of the dishwasher door. The cycle takes up to 1 1/2 hours so it is worth loading the machine. The machine beeps when the cycle is complete. You will find a small supply of dishwasher tablets under the sink.

WASHING MACHINE - The isolation switch is on the grid panel on the kitchen wall. There are full instructions in the information folder. The machine is a washer drier and the complete cycle can be quite long depending on settings. Please empty the filter and switch off after every use.

MICROWAVE - The isolation switch is on the grid panel on the kitchen wall and full instructions are contained in the information pack.

Shower

The shower has a direct hot water feed from the boiler. There is a safety device which prevents the shower from scalding. You may need to press the safety button on the temperature control in order to increase the temperature if you like really hot showers. Always bath or shower with the lights on as these are connected to the extractor fans. Please do not turn the extractors off. They will stop some time after the light has been switched off.

Blinds

The blinds in the French Doors slide up or down in situ. There is a cord to open or close the slats. Slide either of the plastic buttons on the cord downwards to either open or close the slats. Please do not slide the buttons up or pull the cord away from the windows. The blinds in the remaining windows operate in the normal way.

Lights

Should all be self explanatory but please note that the hall lights are all on sensors and come on as anyone enters the area.

Entertainment

A small selection of DVDs, books and games has been provided for your use. Please leave these in the condition you found them when you leave the property.

Cleaning

Please wipe your feet as you come into the property and keep a check to make sure that you do not carry any tar or other materials from the beach into the property on the bottom of your shoes. Do not bring heavy or bulky wet gear such as wet suits and boards back to the apartment to avoid damage to the property. The apartment is professionally cleaned before each booking and we would very much appreciate your efforts in keeping the property as clean as possible during your stay, using the materials provided, and leaving it as you would wish to find it. If you break or damage or spill anything or you find anything not to be working, please let us know as soon as possible.

Rubbish and Re-cycling

Bins are provided at the entrance to the car park and general rubbish is collected on alternate Tuesdays. Please do not overfill internal bins or leave rubbish outside the apartment. Re-cycling sacks are also provided for your use. Please follow the instructions on the outside of the sacks. Please recycle as much as you can and leave the filled sacks either in the small recycling bins or at the back of the pump-house building at the entrance to the cark-park. There are additional re-cycling facilities in the main Torcross car-park (Near the tank and memorial). Please take all your bottles and glass here before you leave.

BBQ

There is no facility to Barbeque at the complex.

Bedding

If you are staying for 2 weeks, a fresh linen set will be provided midway through your stay. Upon leaving the property, please strip all beds that have been used.

And Finally ..... Some History

'At The Beach' is situated on the site of the former Torcross Hotel, built in the late 19th Century. Originally the beach came all the way up to the outside of the hotel and there are early pictures of people bathing from wooden bathing caravans used to protect Victorian modesty. The sea wall protecting the village dates from 1979 following the last major destructive storms and not long after this, the hotel was loosely converted into holiday apartments although the restaurant and Torcross Tavern remained. We bought the property in October 2007 and started work on the conversion immediately. Most of the inside of the building has been taken out and a new layout created to form the 15 apartments and 3 cottages that currently make up 'At The Beach'. We hope you enjoy the results.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 11 At the Beach. Extremely comfortable with wonderful views down the beach. Had some lovely meals in local pubs and we would recommend the Ship Inn at Ugborough, some 30 minute drive away near Ivybridge.
