10 Christmassy Cottages

We've picked out ten of our most Christmassy cottages, perfect for cosying up on a winter's break. This little lot are all about crackling open fires, period features that add a little festive charm and pretty settings perfect for those festive walks...well you've got to leave the fireside sometimes...

1. Barn Cottage, Cornwall

We couldn't picture a home from home more suited to a family Christmas than Barn Cottage if we tried. With a woodburning stove to keep you cosy and little touches such as board games to revive memories of family Christmases gone by, this is one of our faves.

2. Merchants Rise, Devon

Once the elegant home of a Dartmouth Merchant back in the 17 th century, Merchants Rise could have been made for Christmas breaks. Think wooden beams, mullioned windows and spiral staircases.

3. The Chapel, Somerset

This converted country chapel sits right in the heart of Somerset’s countryside, and it’s the perfect choice for those of you who fancy a festive escape with a difference. It may be a hundreds of years old, but its bright, contemporary and the views are beautiful.

4. Dinton Mill Cottage, Wiltshire

Cottages don’t come much quainter than this one…Dinton Mill sits right beside a mill pond, and it has flagstone floors, an open fire – the whole caboodle. The stream that flows outside once turned the mill, and the sound of it makes a soothing sound that’ll lull you to sleep.

5. Magnolia Cottage, Devon

We don’t think Magnolia Cottage could have a more beautiful setting…perched on the coast in Devon’s well-to-do South Hams region, this stylish cottage has far-reaching sea views that make a stay extra special.

6. Couthy Butts, Isle of Wight

Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the only 16 th century cottage on the Isle of Wight – and what a cottage it is. You can’t get much more Christmassy than a thatched roof and an open fire, and both bedrooms look out across the surrounding countryside. Bliss.

7. Holly Cottage, Yorkshire

We love Holly Cottage. With woodland views, use of a bubbling hot tub to keep you warm and period features that give it character, Holly Cottage is the perfect Christmas hideaway for two. Oh and there’s even underfloor heating to keep you feeling toasty.

8. Adipit Cottage, Devon

Embrace Devon life this Christmas with a stay at the beautiful Adipit Cottage. With Christmas card looks, a woodburner and five acres of grounds, every room looks like a page from Devon Life. There are even resident sheep and chickens in the grounds.

9. The Coach House, Cornwall

The kids will think Christmas has arrived early when they set eyes on the outside play area, tree house, zip wire and trampoline at The Coach House. Period features throughout nod to the cottage’s history, and it’s found in three acres of gorgeous grounds.

10. Mythra Cottage, Devon

Village setting. Check. Country pub around the corner. Check. Log burning stove. Check. Mythra Cottage sits nestled in a quiet Devon village, and with a warm atmosphere that’ll make you want to curl up and forget the world it’s a welcoming wintry home from home.
