Now this is an interesting one for those of you visiting Whitby. The Museum of Victorian Science can only be visited by appointment, is only suitable for over 16s and gets rave reviews from pretty much all who visit it. The museum is housed within one room that’s crammed full of relics and oddities from the Victorian era, and everyone who visits is given a personalised tour and live demonstrations of the weird and wonderful machinery.
Tours usually last for around two hours and there’s even a stop halfway through for visitors to enjoy a drink and take in what they’ve seen so far, so this is a popular attraction with those who fancy something a little bit different. The museum is based around the owner –Tony’s private collection, and he’s always happy to answer questions and explain as he goes along to make sure every visitor (even those who aren’t too hot on science) has a time to remember.
The demonstration show includes an insight into the research of Sir William Crookes, Dr Frankenstein’s laboratory, demonstrations of lightning and thunder and a look at how X rays were first discovered. To book your appointment at this quirky attraction call Tony Swift on 01947 897440.
