Ok so Yorkshire has plenty to see and discover above ground, but make sure you don’t miss this spectacular family attraction beneath it. Ingleborough Cave is the region’s most fascinating show cave, and it’s been luring visitors into its gloomy depths for more than 175 years.
The imposing entrance to the cave says everything you need to know, the cave is dramatic, mysterious and exhilarating to walk your way through. Look out for the cave formations that never fail to stop visitors in their tracks and get up close to artefacts found right in the cave itself that date back millions of years. Some of the items tell the tale of the Ice Age and its impact on the cave and the surrounding landscape, so a visit offers an insight into the whole area as well as just this site.
Regular tours start at the cave’s entrance throughout the day, and the guides are always happy to help visitors explore its many features in their own time. Don’t worry, all walkways are well-lit with flood lights and even, concrete pathways have been created to make wandering the cave as easy as possible. Dogs are even welcome throughout the cave on leads, and the cave only looks more dramatic when the weather’s wet.
