There are two sandy beaches in Scarborough - South Bay Beach and North Bay Beach. Since there's not much between them they’re both popular with families and those keen to unroll their towels and settle down for a day, but it's worth bearing in mind that North Bay Beach is also a favourite spot for watersports. Look to the northern end of the beach and you’ll see rocky outcrops that get cut off at high tide, and if you bide your time and wander up that way when the tide goes back out you’ll find the beach dotted with rock pools.
The southern end of the beach is home to the flatter area of sand that’s a better bet for those of you who just want to sit back and enjoy the shore, and out at sea you’ll see jet skis, swimmers and even surfers.
The south end winds around the headland to South Bay Beach and the main road behind the headland provides plenty of parking. There’s always a qualified lifeguard on hand throughout the peak season for added peace of mind, and with an excellent water quality North Bay Beach is one of the region’s safest spots to enjoy watersports and time in the sea.
