Affectionately known as Yorkshire’s garden racecourse, Ripon Racecourse has played host to some of the country’s most enthralling races over the last three centuries, and it’s not only has a beautiful setting but also a fantastic atmosphere.
The course is one of the prettiest even the most avid racing fans will experience, and with a Gold Rose Award from Yorkshire in Bloom it’s easy to see how its nickname came about! There’s a giant screen opposite the main spectator stand so you won’t miss a moment as the race unfolds, and with up to 16 races every season there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy the action while you’re in Ripon.
The season starts in April, and the course is a popular one with fans from all over the country. Every year sees it host some of the finest riders and runners, and it’s a unique way to spend a day during a stay in the area no matter how much you know about the sport. Look out for the special events held at the course too, as it’s one of the city’s most popular venues.
