One of the best things about a visit to Oxenhope and neighbouring Haworth is that you can barely turn a corner without spotting a familiar road, track or building from the classic 70s film The Railway Children. So, The Railway Children walk takes visitors past the sites that were featured in the film, and – for the most part – they look just the way they did all those years ago.
Start the walk at Haworth Visitor Centre (which was actually used as the butcher’s shop in the film) and follow the route past Main Street, Oakworth Station, Mytholmes Tunnel, Ebor Mill and on to Haworth Station. The whole walk’s around 2.4 miles, and you’ll need to wear sturdy footwear incase of any mud along the way.
Much of the film was shot at Oakworth Station, so it’s always a highlight of the walk (and a popular spot for a photo!), and if you look to the left once you leave the station you’ll see the pretty white cottage that was the home of Mr Perks in the film. If you want to see even more of the spots that featured in the film, there’s a longer circular walk at 6 miles that starts and finished at Haworth Station.
