There are so many walks and routes to tackle from Grassington that it can be difficult knowing where to start, so why not choose a section of The Dales Way? The Dales Way may be a little too long to complete in full (since it’s 81 miles long!) but there’s a section between Grassington and the delightfully named Yockenthwaite that’s only 13 miles long.
The Dales Way starts in the spa town of Ilkley and runs all the way to Lake Windermere in the Lake District. Most of the route covers the diverse landscape of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, crossing colourful moors, limestone landmarks and swirling rivers, and the final quarter of the trail edges into Cumbria. The walk’s a great way for first time visitors to the Dales to get walking, and if you like to cover long distances with ever-changing scenery then it’s perfect.
If you walk the section between gorgeous Grassington and Yockenthwaite you’ll find yourself at a pretty little hamlet on the banks of the River Wharfe. If the name sounds familiar it may be because it lent its name to one of the characters in the children’s TV programme The Rottentrolls during the 90s!
