Yorkshire may be dotted with seriously quaint villages but none of them are quite as picturesque as Grassington – and when Grassington in Bloom’s in full swing it’s so pretty it’s painful. The residents of the village put their heads together months before the competition to create striking, colourful displays wherever they can. Grassington in Bloom takes place every year and the village often picks up an award for its gorgeous efforts.
Visitors can’t help but notice the village at this time of year as it’s awash with colour and brightened up with fun displays to try to catch the judges’ eyes. Many of the displays centre around the village square, and flower pots flank benches, dangle quietly from lamp posts and flower beds brim with blooms. The annual Grassington Festival which takes place every June usually raises money to fun the blooms so they’re a real local effort carefully planned to delight visitors and impress when the judges visit the village.
The Garden Competition is always one of the highlights of Grassington in Bloom as home owners battle it out to be picked out as having the most beautiful blooms. It’s all in good fun though, and the event makes the village one of Yorkshire’s prettiest every summer.
