The South West Coast PathWhitsand Bay rolls on for miles, and the South West Coast Path winds along behind the beaches and makes for some brilliant Whitsand Bay walks. One of the highlights of the walks to choose from are the breathtaking coastal views along every section, from jutting cliffs to wildlife, surfers and divers enjoying the waters to striking headland such as Rame Head. The path takes in some of the bay’s most popular towns and villages, including Seaton, Portwrinkle and Freathy, so walkers can choose which to visit and pick up the nearest section.

Cawsand to Whitsand BayFor a shorter Whitsand Bay walk along the South West Coast Path, the trail from Cawsand is recommended. Although only 5 miles long, this walk is quite challenging due to some steep climbs along the way. Pick up the coast path in Cawsand and follow it through Penlee Woods, once you leave the woodland you’ll eventually come to Rame Head before continuing towards Whitsand Bay to the west. Look out for the medieval chapel on Rame Head, as it was here that the first sighting of the Spanish Armarda took place!

Long BeachLong Beach is just the spot for a casual walk in Whitsand Bay. This beach seems endless, so you can happily stretch your legs and make the most of the fresh sea breeze to blow the cobwebs out, just keep an eye on the tide times to avoid being cut off. The beach is backed by rugged Cornish cliffs, and you’re sure to pass plenty going on along the way. The seas are popular with surfers and divers, so you’ll spot the odd dot on the horizon, and the beaches along the bay are always filled with a few walkers or families.

Portwrinkle to Whitsand Bay and FreathyThis Whitsand Bay walk is a great one for getting an overview of the area, and it’s just under 5 miles long. Start by parking at one of the car parks in Portwrinkle and cross the stile opposite the Whitsand Bay Hotel Golf Club. If you have trouble finding it look for the sign to Tregantle Fort. As you head uphill you’ll be well on your way, and you should have some brilliant views back down over the village. The walk boasts beautiful sea views across the bay, but please take care to read warning signs near Tregantle Fort, as it is used by the MoD for occasional live firing.
