Dog Friendly Westward Ho! Walks

Northam Burrows Country Park, 250 hectares of scenic coastal plain at the Taw and Torridge Estuary’s mouth, is the perfect dog friendly walk in Westward Ho! Set within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Burrows welcome dogs although they ask that they remain on the lead as the area is an important one for plant and wildlife.

Northam Burrows Counrty Park is undeveloped, and as a Site of Special Scientific Interest there is plenty to look out for as your stroll. Although walkers can access the Burrows at any time, the Visitor Centre is open between May and September and vehicle access is only available during this period.

Dog Friendly Beaches near Westward Ho!

When it comes to dog friendly Westward Ho! beaches, owners and pets have the run of some of the UK’s most beautiful stretches of coastline in the village itself and the surrounding resorts. Westward Ho! Beach rolls on for 2 miles, so there is plenty of room for its designated dog exercise area.

With the Northam Burrows just behind the beach dogs have a choice of a stunning sandy beach to investigate or a walk through a grassy Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty! Dogs are welcome on Saunton Sands, allowed for the most part on Woolacombe Beach but are restricted at certain times, and they are allowed on Putsborough Sands too.

Dog Friendly Pubs in Westward Ho!

With so many walks and beaches to enjoy in the area, you’ll no doubt pop into a dog friendly Westward Ho! pub or two along the way for a bite to eat or drink.

Luckily, the neighbouring towns and villages are peppered with welcoming pubs for owners and pets to relax in on their travels, so why not plan your walk to end or pause in one of the nearby pet-friendly pubs?

The Royal George pub in Appledore, The Hart Inn in Bideford and The Hoops Inn in Clovelly all welcome well-behaved dogs along. Great news for owners as well as pets coming along!

Dog Friendly Westward Ho! Attractions

The Milky Way Adventure Park welcomes dogs on leads throughout the park, although they are not permitted within the bird of prey centre or indoor play areas (except guide dogs).

A water bowl can be found at the entrance to the park. The most obvious dog friendly attraction in Westward Ho! is its golden beach! There is a special area put aside for dogs to enjoy all year round, and with Northam Burrows just behind welcoming dogs on leads the place to be for four-legged visitors seems to be the shore!
