Donkey RidesThese may not be annual Weston-super-Mare events, but the donkey rides up and down the beach are usually the most important ones in younger visitors’ diaries! Weston has long been famous for the sight of its friendly donkeys plodding up and down the beach, and it’s great fun for the little ones to hop on and enjoy this Somerset beach at its best. T4 on the BeachChannel 4’s T4 on the Beach is one of the most high profile events in Weston-super-Mare. The golden sands play host to thousands of eager youths and some of the biggest names in pop music for the show. Broadcast live on Channel 4, the concert has returned to Weston-super-Mare for nine years running now, and the 2011 event attracted more than 45,000 music lovers. The huge annual event demonstrates just how big the beach is, as there’s still plenty of room for the beach goers that aren’t keen to appear live on TV!

RHL Beach RaceThe RHL Beach Race is another regular sight on the sands at Weston, and this is one of the most exciting Weston-super-Mare events! This three-day event sees 2000 motor bikers compete in a test of endurance, and it makes a fascinating sight. Riders of all levels and ages descend on the sands to battle it out and show off their skills, and the 2011 event took place in October. There’s always a programme packed with related events both on and off the beach, and it’s become a real festival for the whole family.

Sand Sculpture FestivalThe Sand Sculpture Festival has become one of the biggest annual events in Weston-super-Mare. What better beach than the seven miles of sand along Weston’s seafront to host fascinating sand art and sculptures that amaze visitors every year?! 2011’s festival had a jungle theme, and the sands played host to imaginative sculptures of animals, native tribes and exotic flowers between June and September! This event is a must for all you amateur sandcastle makers, as remember, everything’s created from sand.
