English National Surf ChampionshipsWatergate Bay events centre around the surf scene, and one of the biggest events in the surfing world take place in its impressive waters every year. The English National Surf Championships are set for the1 and 2 May and will be held by the English Surfing Federation. The rising starts of the English surf scene will take part in this Watergate Bay event, and the shape of Watergate Bay makes it a great beach for a view of the action, as the beach becomes a makeshift theatre for the crowds! The event will be divided into categories, including women’s, men’s, longboard, masters, seniors and vets, as well as age categories too.

Relentless BoardmastersThis huge Watergate Bay event will take over the sands once again from 10 – 14 August 2011! Relentless Boardmasters has become Cornwall’s leading event, and the festival sees more than 50 live acts take to the beach to entertain the crowds. This year’s festival is set to include performances from Newton Faulkner, Example, Plan B, Tinie Tempah and many more. The festival is split between Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach, where the sportier side of things takes place over the same dates, so make sure you book tickets for the correct venue.

Newquay Fish FestivalNewquay Fish Festival is set for Saturday 10 September, and this 3-day event brings Newquay and its harbour to life as hundreds flock to join in. The Newquay Fish Festival will see its ninth year in 2011, and highlights will include cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs, perfect for foodies to pick up some tips for their own kitchens! In addition, there will be a host of entertainment for children and families, and plenty of chances to sample some fine Newquay foods.

RNLI Lifeboat DayRNLI Lifeboat Day will take place in Newquay on Sunday 7 August, and is one of the more serious events in Watergate Bay. Lifeboat Day is fun for everyone, and there are amazing displays and demonstrations, live entertainment and dozens of stalls to browse.This event raises vital funds for the RMLI, and they hope to top last year’s fantastic total of £6000! There are also rescue dog and helicopter displays in addition to the lifeboat, so your day will be packed with once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Real Ale and Pie FestivalThe Real Ale and Pie Festival in Newquay will take place on 2 May 2011. The event takes place at Sumggler’s Den Inn in Cubert, Newquay and will see its 12 year for 2011. Residents and visitors alike flock to brighten their bank holiday browsing over 70 types of real ale and all kinds of delicious pies...and there will even be the chance to try before you buy! There’s always live music and entertainment so this is an event the whole family can enjoy.
