Swansea BayYou can’t ask for much more than six miles of curving sandy beach, and that’s what you’ll find at Swansea Bay. Beach holidays in Wales start here, and despite its popularity it’s managed to keep a pretty relaxed feel that’s hard to find these days. The beach has its own toilets, wheelchair access and refreshments – and public transport in the area will drop you within a stone’s throw of the beach. The waters are good for water sports, but please note that there is no lifeguard service on this beach. A seasonal dog ban operates on some sections of Swansea Bay.

Rhossili BayThis is another beach in Wales that never takes much selling, especially since it’s been branded the supermodel of British beaches by The Independent! Rhossili Bay boasts a Green Coast Award and rolls on for three sandy miles of bliss. This is one of the most popular Welsh beaches with surfers too, and families should note that it was also voted Best Picnic Spot in Britain and The UK’s Number 1 Dog-Friendly Beach. Dogs are allowed on Rhossili Bay throughout the year, so note this one if planning a dog-friendly beach holiday in Wales.

Langland BayLangland Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Wales, with a Blue Flag and a Seaside Award under its belt. There is a lifeguard on the beach between May and September so it’s a good one for those with children, and it pretty much ticks all other boxes. With toilets, refreshments, parking, access for the disabled, suitability for water sports and a seasonal dog ban, Langland Bay is not only sandy and scenic but it also has everything you’ll need during your day. Perfect for a beach holiday in Wales!

Bracelet BayBracelet Bay lies in sleepy Mumbles, not far from Swansea Bay. This beach is smaller than many of the others, but if you’re taking small children i makes it easier to keep them close – and it’s also a great spot for a stroll in the surf. There are also plenty of rock pools to explore along the sands, so don’t forget fishing nets! Dogs are welcome the whole year round, and the bay has a Blue Flag award too. This isn’t the easiest beach to get to, so if you struggle with hills park above the beach and enjoy the view instead.

Three Cliffs BayAs the name suggests, Three Cliffs Bay is one of the most stunning spots for a beach holiday in Wales, and its three cliffs are one of the country’s most photographed sights. Described by Katherine Jenkins as one of her favourite spots, Three Cliffs is an exhilarating beach and a fantastic spot for a day by the sea. This beach is also a favourite with riders, and the sight of them galloping up and down the sands makes for a beautiful view if you happen to catch them. This beach also has a Green Coast Award.
