Poldhu CoveWhen it comes to Lizard Peninsula walks in the fresh sea air, Poldhu Cove’s cliffs and views make it a great place to start. Poldhu Cove was nudged into the history books when Marconi sent the first trans-Atlantic radio signal from the beach in 1901, and a monument to the communication pioneer can still be seen nearby. The building on the cliffs overlooking the beach is a residential home, and its surrounding cliff tops are a lovely start to a blustery walk with sea views..

Lizard PointLizard Point is one Lizard Peninsula walk not to be missed! Mainland Britain’s most southerly point, is one of the county’s most popular walking trails. Look out for the lighthouse which dates back to 1752, as it’s open to the public. There are plenty of cliff walks to enjoy in the area, and you’ll find a selection of local shops to stroll around too. You’ll find plenty of Serpentine themed gifts and geological specimens in the nearby shops, so you can take a piece of the Lizard home with you.

The Helford RiverLast but by no means least, the Helford River is one of the most unspoilt areas for Lizard Peninsula walks, and its collection of sheltered creeks, dipping woodland and river views make this a varied spot to explore and stretch your legs. This tidal river ribbons its way past a series of traditional Cornish villages, including Helford Village. Once a vital port, the village sleeps on the banks of the scenic river, and a pedestrian ferry connects the Helford Passage.

The Loe PoolThe Loe Pool is the county’s largest freshwater lake, and it’s certainly one of the most impressive. A huge bar of shingle separates the lake from the open sea, and there are a number of woodland walks in the surrounding area for walkers to enjoy the beauty spot on foot. It’s also possible to walk the whole war around The Loe, creating a 5 mile Lizard walk, but it’s best to wear wellies as the paths can be muddy at times. You’ll find several car parks, as well as birdwatching spots, the Bar Walk Plantation and much more.
