Holcombe to TeignmouthThis circular Teignmouth walk connects the hillside village of Holcombe with Teignmouth and Shaldon, and is a fantastic chance to discover the sea views, thatched cottages and smugglers haunts of the chocolate box village. Much of this walk follows the coastal path beside the railway line, and is just over four miles long. The walk should take around an hour and a half and avoids busy main roads, so it’s a perfect walk for dog owners. Much of this walk is based around lanes and paths and there is just one fairly steep climb to be aware of.

Shaldon to HaytorOne of the lengthiest Shaldon walks runs between Shaldon and Dartmoor’s Haytor. The Templar Way connects the picturesque village of Shaldon, near Teignmouth, to Dartmoor’s impressive Haytor. An eighteen mile walk, this is probably one to tackle in sections or over several journeys. The walk follows the former export route on which granite from Dartmoor was transported. Parts of the original tramway are still visible along the walk, and it once carried granite over the moor to Teignmouth and Shaldon from where it was exported. Haytor is an impressive granite tor and a vantage point for spectacular views across the moor and Teign Estuary.

Teignmouth to BabbacombeThis eight mile Teignmouth walk runs from Teignmouth to Babbacombe and is quite a challenging one but the views you’ll pass are priceless. Start on Teignmouth seafront and cross the river to the nearby village of Shaldon, either via the passenger ferry of bridge. Once in Shaldon, pick up the South West Coast path which will take you round the Ness and follow it along. Sections of this walk are strenuous and include steep cliffs and hills. The walk passes Labrador Bay, Maidencombe, Watcombe Head and eventually arrives in Babbacombe, Torquay. Buses operate from Maidencombe back to Teignmouth.

Teignmouth to ShaldonAlthough a shorter walk in Teignmouth, Teignmouth to Shaldon on foot is a must during a holiday in either location! If staying in Teignmouth, make your way to the seafront and reach Shaldon either by the historic passenger ferry service or by walking over the bridge. Once in Shaldon, walk to the ness and pass through the original smuggler’s tunnel which leads to Ness Cove beach. There are beautiful views of Teignmouth from Shaldon’s beach, so it’s worth taking a camera. If you return to Teignmouth via ferry and wander along the beach you will be met with the sight of a row of fishermen’s cottages, a picturesque reminder of days gone by!
