River BeachRiver Beach is found on the estuary side of Teignmouth, and is a beautifully nostalgic Teignmouth beach. River Beach is a little way out of town, but this makes it one of the most peaceful beaches in Teignmouth, and a great place to relax, walk or just admire its views. The beach’s estuary views are spectacular and stretch as far as Dartmoor on a clear day – so do take your camera if you visit this breathtaking Teignmouth beach. River Beach allows dogs throughout the year, and it has its own toilets, refreshments and parking. A ferry to Shaldon also operates from River Beach, so it’s a great base for a day trip.

Shaldon BeachShaldon is an idyllic village on the River Teign, and shouldn’t be overlooked when choosing a beach in Teignmouth! The beach isn’t the biggest in the area, but there is plenty to see and do – including fishing, sailing, rowing or catch the passenger ferry from Teignmouth and back to save a drive. The actual beach is a mix of sand and shingle, and includes toilets and its own car park. The passenger ferry that operates between Shaldon and Teignmouth is England’s oldest, so Shaldon Beach is worth visiting just to say you’ve been aboard! Shaldon’s shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance from the beach, and it’s a hidden family-friendly gem.

Dawlish Town BeachJust 3 miles along the coast, Dawlish Town Beach is another great option for those on Teignmouth beach holidays who fancy venturing a little further afield. Dawlish Town Beach is a quaint sand and shingle beach with all the usual facilities, a seasonal dog ban and scenic surroundings. The Riviera railway line runs directly behind the beach, so make sure you greet passing passengers as the trains rumble along! Pleasure boats operate from Dawlish Town Beach, and trips include tours of the coast, sea angling and more. The beach is not lifeguarded, although the waters are safe for bathing and paddling with gentle shelves.

Teignmouth Main BeachTeignmouth Town beach is the most central Teignmouth beach, and by far the most popular. Running from the River Teign’s mouth all the way to Dawlish, this lengthy stretch of sand is a favourite with those on Teignmouth beach holidays, and it’s easy to see why. Lifeguards operate between May and September, and dogs are allowed at each end of the beach. Also, the traditional Victorian pier and crazy golf course make this a great family-friendly beach with plenty to do. Other facilities at Main Beach include pleasure boat cruises, deckchair hire, first aid and shower facilities.
