Morwellham QuayDiscover another world just four miles from Tavistock as you step back in time with a visit to Morwellham Quay. This award-winning museum and visitor centre captures the West Country of yesteryear and amazes visitors as they roam the miner’s cottages, quaysides and docks of the quay and copper mine. Take a ride on the narrow-gauge Mine Railway along the scenic River Tamar before descending into the depths of the George and Charlotte Copper Mine. This fascinating journey through former workplaces demonstrates conditions and the lives of those Tavistock residents.

Tamar Otter & Wildlife CentreIf you don’t mind your discovery of neighbouring family attractions in Tavistock taking you a little further afield, the Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre in Launceston, Cornwall is more than worth a drive out. The centre is a rare opportunity to see both British and Asian short clawed otters up close in stunning surroundings. Visitors can watch the otters at feeding time, visit owl aviaries and spot fallow deer in their woodland enclosure. The centre also houses lakes, peacocks and a waterfall. Parking is free and there is a tea room, gift shop and selection of picnic tables.

Hidden Valley Discovery ParkIf you are heading to Launceston to enjoy its family attractions on Tavistock holidays, the Hidden Valley Discovery Park is four miles to the west of the town and well worth the short drive.The Discovery Park is a great fun filled attraction, try your hand at the crystal challenges and see if you can crack the clues to find the treasure at the end! The Tamar Valley Donkey Park is just a short drive from Tavistock and is a great family attraction. Children love to come and say hello to the many rescue donkeys that the park is home to, and they aren’t the only animals to be found here in the breathtaking Tamar Valley! Visitors can feed and pet sheep, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs and more during their day at the Tamar Valley Donkey Park, and the animals will guarantee a warm welcome to Cornwall! This attraction relies on visitor fees to fund itself, so the residents are always pleased to see new faces.
