West Sedgemoor Nature ReserveWest Sedgemoor Nature Reserve is the ideal Taunton walk for bird lovers, as it’s a protected haven for them. Guided walks are available of the nature reserve, and if you take one during the summer you’ll be greeted by a colourful carpet of wild flowers. Part of the biggest wet meadow system in England, West Sedgemoor has the largest lowland selection of breeding wading birds, so there’s always plenty to see on a visit! There's also a winter viewing station.

Taunton to LongallerThis four-mile walk in Taunton is perfect if you want to stretch your legs, and it starts right in the town centre. The walk is a scenic choice, following the River Tone towards the west of Taunton. There are no cafes of facilities along the way, so it’s an idea to stock up before you leave the town. The walk explores the low lying water meadows and riverside scenery close to Taunton, so it’s best avoided after heavy rainfall due to the chance of floods. This is a circular walk.

Somerset Space WalkThe Somerset Space Walk is a unique demonstration of the solar system through a Taunton walk. The trail uses the fourteen miles of historic canal between Taunton and Bridgwater to demonstrate the layout and scale of the planets with models along the way. Designed to change and challenge people’s perceptions of the solar system and space, the walk was opened by an astronomer in 1997. There’s no need to tackle the whole walk at once, as Maunsel Canal Centre is close to the inner planets!
