Seal IslandLess than 4 miles offshore from St Ives lies a spectacular St Ives attraction, Seal Island. There are regular boat trips available from St Ives to enable visitors a close up view of its resident grey seals, and at times there are up to 40 to be seen! The Seal Island boat trip lasts for around an hour and is a great trip for adults and children! The boat trips leave from various different areas of the harbour, depending on the tide. Keep your eyes peeled during the trip, as there’s even the odd basking shark to be spotted!

Barbara Hepworth MuseumWhile we’re on the subject of art, St Ives was the home of pioneering sculptor Barbra Hepworth, and since her death in 1975 her former home and studio have been converted into a fascinating museum and garden. National Seal SanctuaryThe National Seal Sanctuary in Helston, is not strictly a family attraction in St Ives, but it’s only a short drive away and is well worth it! The sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates seals and visitors can meet the collection of grey and common seals housed within its pools. There are also sea lions, otters, penguins and a selection of farm animals – and children never fail to be delighted at the friendly residents. The National Seal Sanctuary is open every day of the year, except for Christmas Day, but closing times vary from season to season.

Paradise ParkJust a 20 minute drive from St Ives, Paradise Park in Hayle is a leading wildlife sanctuary and should be included in any list of St Ives family attractions! Paradise Park and JungleBarn indoor play centre is an all-weather attraction, with hundreds of rare birds to meet. The park’s feathered residents include parrots, toucans, flamingos and more. You’ll also find wildlife such as squirrels, pandas and otter, as well as farmyard animals! Paradise Park is open every day except for Christmas Day.
