PorthgwiddenPorthgwidden Beach is found to the east of Porthmeor, and is more of a sandy cove than a beach – but that only adds to its charm! Because the cove is sheltered, swimming at Porthgwidden is very safe, and it’s a lovely secluded spot to relax in during a St Ives beach holiday. Not only is Porthgwidden Beach. This beach has the best of both worlds, as its sheltering cliffs give it an isolated feel yet it’s served by a range of facilities, and it’s close to the centre if St Ives too.

PorthmeorJust outside the Tate St Ives, Porthmeor Beach is one of the most popular beaches in St Ives and it’s worthy of one of the paintings within the gallery. Whether your choice of beach fun is a relaxing day with the family or hitting the waves with your surfboard, you’ll find everything you need at Porthmeor Beach. As this is such a long sandy beach it’s rarely difficult to find space, and there is a seasonal dog ban. It can be tricky to park close to the beach so it’s best to walk if you can.

Carbis BayDon't miss this one during a St Ives beach holiday! Carbis Bay Beach won a Blue Flag Award in 2010, and with a mile of silver sands welcoming those on beach holidays in St Ives it’s easy to see why. The beach has it’s own car park, toilets and nearby refreshments, so it’s perfect for families and beach bums! There’s little surf here, and there’s a beautiful stretch of coastal footpath behind the beach, so it’s a lovely spot for a stroll by the sea too.

Harbour BeachHarbour Beach is a smaller St Ives beach, but it’s right in the centre of the town, so it’s easy to reach and well-served by the nearby shops and facilities. Harbour Beach is sandy, and there is a dog ban between May and September so it’s great for small children during the summer. Again, it’s difficult to park in the centre of St Ives, so it’s recommended that you walk to the beach is possible. The harbour is right in the midst of St Ives, so the beach and its surroundings bustle with activity, and you’ll find a smattering of bars, small shops and restaurants in the area.

PorthminsterPorthminster is the longest beach in St Ives, and its sands roll on for half a mile. This is a great beach to visit during a beach holiday in St Ives as a family, as there is a lifeguard service during high season, and the beach is naturally sheltered. The sea around Porthminster Beach is calmer here than at some of the others in St Ives, so don’t confuse it with Porthmeor which has great surf! As with all beaches in St Ives there is a seasonal dog ban, and don’t miss a visit to the Porthminster Beach Cafe while you’re there.
