The beach rolls on for two miles, and its sand is perfect for a day’s rest under the sun or a windswept walk during the winter. Owners should note that dogs are not allowed, and there is a large car park nearby too. Please bear in mind that the area around the beach is currently undergoing building work and improvements, so while this will eventually lead to some great facilities for you to enjoy it may be a pain if you visit in the meantime.

Pentewan BeachPentewan Beach is one of the best St Austell beaches in every way! There’s silky sand and safe bathing for those looking for a traditional day’s relaxing by the sea. The beach is also a favourite with active beach goers too, and you’ll be treated to the sight surfers, wind surfers, canoeists, sailors and swimmers. Please note that jet skis are not allowed. A seasonal dog ban applies between Easter and November, so it’s an idea to time dog-friendly beach holidays in St Austell later or earlier in the year. |
Polkerris BeachPolkerris Beach is a little further afield, but if you fancy a quiet beach with nearby history then it’s worth a visit during your St Austell beach holiday. Polkerris Beach is found close to a small hamlet near Fowey, and is just under 20 minutes drive from St Austell. As you drive the country lane to reach this beach you’ll pass the former home of the late author Daphne du Maurier, who penned novels such as The Jamaica Inn and Rebecca, and no doubt she enjoyed her share of summer’s days on this sheltered sandy beach.

Charlestown BeachCharlestown Beach graces a small village just a few miles from St Austell, and is another worth a visit during your beach holiday in St Austell. There’s something magical about Charlestown Beach that makes it a great beach for the explorers amongst you. It’s hard to place what makes this one different, but it may be the geological interest in the area’s pebbles, the mysterious caves along the cliffs or the sight of tall ships in the nearby harbour that have made the area a set for many a film!
