Dog Friendly South Cornwall Walks

It’s not so much a question of finding dog friendly South Cornwall walks, as noting the few that may not be! The South West Coast Path runs through South Cornwall, so if you’re not sure where to start simply choose a section, plan your route and grab your walking boots.

Some parts of the path cross beaches, and if you’re taking your pets along you’ll need to have a quick check that you won’t be restricted by seasonal dog bans. Aside from the coast, you’ll find plenty of dog friendly woodland if you head inland, but always tell someone where you’re going if you’re planning a hike.

Dog Friendly South Cornwall Attractions

There are many dog friendly South Cornwall family attractions, it’s just a question of checking before you plan your day. China Clay Country Park, near St Austell welcomes dogs throughout but they must stay on leads.

This attraction is the only china clay museum in the UK and includes 26 acres of beautiful walks, children’s play areas and woodland trails. Dogs are also welcome on leads in the Lost Gardens of Heligan between 1 October and 31 March. The gardens date back to the Victorian era when they enjoyed their heyday, and have been restored to their original brilliance.

Dog friendly Pubs in South Cornwall

South Cornwall dog friendly pubs pepper the area, and if you pop in and ask when you see any you like the look of you’ll often be welcomed in, but here are some to get you started.

The Old Mill House Inn in Polperro welcomes dogs, as do The Kings Arms and The Fountain Inn in St Austell, and The Ship Inn in Mevagissey.

St Austell in particular has more than its share of dog friendly pubs and restaurants, so bear this in mind of you’re planning a dog friendly holiday in South Cornwall and enjoy a drink and meal as you explore.

Dog Friendly South Cornwall Beaches

The surprising thing about the dog friendly beaches in South Cornwall is that some of the county’s finest sands welcome dogs all year round, so you needn’t feel tied to an out of season holiday by seasonal dog bans on beaches.

Par Sands in Fowey welcomes dogs throughout the year, as well as Coombe Haven and Poldridmouth Beach – and each of these scenic beaches is just 15 minutes from the centre of Fowey. Further along the coast, the impressive 3 mile beach at Whitsand Bay also allows dogs all year round, and there are plenty more besides!
