Industry has always been a huge part of Somerset life, and the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum near Bridgwater pays tribute to the area’s role in the brick-making industry. Somerset has a history of hard, industrial work, and this museum is dedicated to the fascinating skills and labour needed for it to thrive for generations.
There are regular demonstrations so visitors can see just how the area’s walls and bricks were created. The museum is home to Bridgwater's last tile kilns, and it hasn't been fired since the works were closed down all the way back in 1965. The kiln is a Secluded Ancient Monument and it was transformed into a museum during the 90s after escaping the threat of dereliction.
