Somerset is renowned for its colourful and vibrant carnivals, but Bridgwater’s illuminations are famed, and often attract crowds up more than 150,000. The carnival takes place every November, and is thought to be the world’s largest illuminated procession.
The carnival procession lights up the winter as hundreds of dazzling floats make their way through the town, and with lively entertainment throughout Bridgwater from 10.30am this is one of the biggest annual events in Somerset. The parade takes so long to pass that there are stands of seats every year and they’re always available to book in advance if you don’t fancy standing, and please make sure you arrive in good time as the roads close at 4pm.
The Bridgwater Carnival attracts crowds from miles around, and if you’ve yet to see the spectacle of the illuminated floats then make sure you don’t miss this year’s parade.
